My Fitness Story

Growing up in a small town in the Central Valley I was always active in some fashion from a young age. Whether that be playing outside for hours on the acreage my family owned; playing “house” in the play structure my dad built me, tromping through the mud in my mom’s garden, riding horses, or roller skating in our driveway, I found joy in being active. As I grew older my active nature led me to join softball for a short stint, and several years in cheerleading and gymnastics. Taking a break from those activities when I entered college but, not wanting to lose the strength and power I gained from both activities I started focusing on strength training. After a few introductory sessions with trainers at different gyms, coupled with reading materials to gain more knowledge about lifting, I regularly participated in strength training for my health and fitness. It has been a love of mine ever since. The thrill for me lies in being able to transform your body’s ability to lift heavy things and change its composition just by being consistent in picking up weights.I saw the benefits of being active in some fashion by witnessing my parents staying active in their lives as well with interests in gardening, horseback riding, running, lifting weights and all the work it takes to maintain acreage in the country. This influenced me to find avenues to stay active that I enjoyed. Over the years I participated in running, especially when my boys were too young to go to the gym daycare. I’ve done a few half marathons for the fun and personal challenge of them. I’ve participated in group classes such as Zumba, HITT style classes, and barbell workouts aimed at overall strength building. This ultimately lead me to get certified for group classes to substitute instruction at when needed at my big box gym. Sadly Covid happened and suspended my substituting as the group style instruction took a back seat for a while.Fast forward a few years, with children getting older, and the need for parent participation at school lessening, I desired a way to get back into the community doing something I enjoyed and maybe make a little money while doing it. I decided to take a leap and get my personal training certification as well as completing a nutrition course for more knowledge in my venture. With a well equipped garage gym, I was ready to start sharing my passion and knowledge with others. In my spare time when I’m not utilizing my own garage gym, you’ll find me walking my chocolate lab, hiking local trails, paddle boarding, and enjoying all the wonderful things Folsom has to offer.
